Hey Followers!

We are now introducing The Gyro at the Tabuleh Café. If you are wondering what the difference is between a Gyro and a Shawarma, stay tuned. They both have all the same vegetables within the pita sandwich itself but the meat is slightly different. The meat that goes into a Gyro is processed, and the meat in the Shawarma is cut from beef or lamb skirts slowly marinated in selected spices for genuine great taste. The spices that go into both vary for variety among the tastes on the sandwiches. The Gyro is often beef and lamb but you can order just one meat if that is what you prefer. And yes, all our meat processed or not, is Halal Certified.

Ginger Ginger Ginger

Ginger is known for its calming effects on the stomach. It is even said to be more effective than Dramamine in relieving motion sickness as well as seasickness. Ginger reduces many forms of discomfort like dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and cold sweats. Another interesting fact about ginger is its power to help the trials of nausea during pregnancy. In one study it showed to reduce the intensity of nausea in pregnant women and reduce the number of the nauseous attacks brought on by pregnancy. Because fits of nausea are nearly unbearable sometimes, some women choose to take anti-vomiting medications. Unfortunately, these medications produce birth defects in some infants; another reason why we should chose all natural ginger instead of harmful substitutes.

Aside from working wonders with stomach upset ginger can help with unwanted inflammation of the body. Ginger can significantly reduce the amount of pain and swelling caused by arthritis. Patients that undergo studies on ginger report that it does wonders to ease the burden of inflammation in their hands and knees that are effected by inflammation.

Have you ever wondered what gives ginger its unique flavor? One of the components that make up ginger’s unique flavor is called gingerols. A recent study shows that this component may have something to do with the reduction and or inhibition of colorectal cancer cell growth. As well as colorectal cancer cell reduction, ovarian cancer cell reduction is effected too. In another study, the ginger extract killed all of the cancer cells. As you can see, ginger and ginger extract can be VERY helpful in fighting diseases such as cancer, and in treating a variety of discomforts. We should take a second look and consideration when confronting these diseases and how to treat them. Many studies show that the ways we are going about treatments may not be the best ways. Ginger should be strongly considered as a substitute for harmful or insufficient ways of pain reduction.

The Benefits Of Beets.

Have you ever wondered what gives beets their beautiful colors? Well, the answer lies within the betalain pigment, derived from betalamic acid. Studies show that the pigment that makes these beets beautiful actually lessens tumor cell growth, and functions as an antioxidant as well as an anti-inflammatory molecule. The combination between the two molecules heightens your strength against certain cancers including: colon, lung, breast, stomach, prostate, and testicular cancer.

Antioxidants work to counteract free radical oxidation in your body. Free radicals are formed when your body takes in oxygen. These “free radicals” are molecules with unpaired electrons, and as you might know, unpaired molecules are known to be a slight hazard to your health. Antioxidants work against the growing number of free radicals by pairing up with them and “slowing down” the oxidation process. This helps against heart disease, diabetes, cancer, illness, premature aging, menopause, and stroke.

Anti-inflammatory compounds also help against several types of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. Arthritis pain can also be reduced by consumption of beets because of its anti-inflammatory properties. Certain fibers are also found in beets that are helpful to the digestive tract. There are fibers in beets that are not found on any other food and are unique compared to other fibers. Vitamin C and heart healthy potassium can be found in beets as well.

So as you can see the term “just because it looks good, doesn’t mean it is good” does not apply! The vibrant color is both pleasing on the outside and on the inside.

“Omega-6 is like a fat producing bomb…”

So said French researcher Gerard Ailhaud, commenting on the results of a new study showing that mice fed the amount of omega-6 fatty acids present in the modern western diet grow fatter and fatter with each succeeding generation. In the picture shown, the mouse on the left was raised on the high levels of omega-6 fatty acids and low levels of omega-3 fatty acids typical of the American diet. In addition to being grossly overweight, it has the warning signs of diabetes. The healthy mouse on the right was raised on standard mouse chow. The two mice got equal amounts of exercise. The mice are the fourth generation to be raised on the two types of diet.

Omega-6 fatty acids are essential for health, but the amount consumed by most Americans increases the risk of obesity, diabetes, inflammatory diseases, and cancer. Omega-6s are most abundant in vegetable oils such as corn oil, safflower oil, and cottonseed oils. (Olive oil is low in omega- 6 fatty acids.) Few people realize that grain-fed animals are also a major source of omega-6s. Meat and dairy products from animals fed a high-grain diet, which is the typical feedlot diet, have up to ten times more omega-6s than products from animals raised on their natural diet of pasture.

This study suggests that if we switch to food with a healthy balance of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, we will be leaner and healthier, and so will our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Benefits Of Grass Fed Cows

Here at the Tabuleh Cafe we specialize in halal certified foods. The main focus of this article is to inform you about the nutrients present in the meats you purchase here.

When cows are fed grass instead of corn they are healthier, which makes you healthier. Cows that are fed grain or corn have trouble digesting because their bodies were not made to process these foods. Grass is what cows should be eating but due to the unfortunate circumstances, some are forced to eat grains. Corn is cheaper to feed to the animals because it takes less time to raise the animal to the age of profitability. It makes the cows fatter faster and that means more money for businesses distributing them.As if that wasn’t bad enough, these cows are killed in inhumane ways according to the Western methods. That is why we have chosen to serve you only the best halal certified beef rich in nutrients. You know that the animals were treated with respect and killed as humanely as possible with all the healthy contents Western meats are lacking.

Below are some graphs and facts taken from http://www.eatwild.com/healthbenefits.htm that will provide you with adequate information about grass fed meats.

Summary of Important Health Benefits of Grassfed Meats, Eggs and Dairy

Lower in Fat and Calories. There are a number of nutritional differences between the meat of pasture-raised and feedlot-raised animals. To begin with, meat from grass-fed cattle, sheep, and bison is lower in total fat. If the meat is very lean, it can have one third as much fat as a similar cut from a grain-fed animal. In fact, as you can see by the graph below, grass-fed beef can have the same amount of fat as skinless chicken breast, wild deer, or elk. Research shows that lean beef actually lowers your “bad” LDL cholesterol levels.

Because meat from grass-fed animals is lower in fat than meat from grain-fed animals, it is also lower in calories. (Fat has 9 calories per gram, compared with only 4 calories for protein and carbohydrates. The greater the fat content, the greater the number of calories.) As an example, a 6-ounce steak from a grass-finished steer can have 100 fewer calories than a 6-ounce steak from a grain-fed steer. If you eat a typical amount of beef (66.5 pounds a year), switching to lean grassfed beef will save you 17,733 calories a year—without requiring any willpower or change in your eating habits. If everything else in your diet remains constant, you’ll lose about six pounds a year. If all Americans switched to grassfed meat, our national epidemic of obesity might diminish.

  • Studies show that meat that was grass fed contains a significantly less amount of bad fats; instead, they contain good fats known as omega-3s. Omega-3 fats are the most heart-friendly of all fats, they are essential to the brain, and they can reduce the risk of cancer. Surprisingly, of all Americans, only 40% consume an adequate amount of healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

  • In addition to the omega-3s our meats contain high levels of Vitamin E. For example, grass fed cattle is four times higher in Vitamin E than other-fed cattle. Even though Vitamin E is essential to our health, many Americans are lacking it. Vitamin E can help your body in a variety of ways like skin protection from ultraviolet light, protection against Alzheimer’s disease and bladder cancer, and prevention of oxidative stress.
